Substainable Development

Biscru employs sustainable development at every stage in the making of its products.  All ingredients are organic and produced using sustainable agricultural practices.  However, Biscru’s environmentally friendly approach to production and impact on its surroundings include:

  • Biscru sources at least 80% of its supplies direct from the mountaineous Rhône Alpes region surrounding Trièves, where the company is based. All fresh fruit and vegetables are provided by growers based within 100km of the factory.  The buckwheat, sunflower seeds and linseeds are also bought from local agricultural suppliers, and this will include psyillium seeds from 2009. Because this is such a beneficial project for the region, the Rhône Alpes region has taken an active interest and subsidises the seed hulling process and also the acquisition of an additional dehydrator, to meet increasing demands.
  • Biscru ensures that it employs people from local social rehabilitation programmes.  Staff training is provided in collaboration with a local community partner called ANPE.
  • Dehydration is energy intensive and the dehydrators are now powered by solar panels.
  • Our dehydrating equipment is made available to the local organic famers so that they are able to make use of any surplus crops that they may have.
